Tyros
The Athelesian Empire
Tyros is a small island city in the Athelesian Empire. There is a harbor with four of the Imperial Navy's small Frigates docked in addition to a wide variety of smaller fishing and merchant vessels. Trade is heavy through Tyros, as it holds the gateway between Isatis and Atheles. It is a very religious settlement, with two churches able to be found within. There are three taverns and two inns in town, mostly centered around the harbor market. The town is led by the Commodore, who stays in a large house next to the main barracks. There are no defensive structures in the town save for a watch tower, although the harbor does have a makeshift seawall along the coastline to help prevent flooding during the spring raining seasons.
Demographics
Tyros is composed primarily of humans, elves, and half-elves. There are a spattering of other races, however, and the town celebrates diversity rather than shy away from it. The majority of workers here are centered around the harbor and the service industry, providing means for merchants to come and go between Isatis and the mainland Empire.
Government
Tyros is governed by a Commodore, like many of the smaller cities in the Empire. Commodore Galanis has faithfully served as the executive power in Tyros for six years.
Districts
The city is composed of two primary districts. The Harbor Market area surrounding the southern end of the city is where almost all of the commercial exchanges happens. It is also home to a majority of the city's taverns and shops. Then, the Residential district is home to everything else and is comprised of the northern two-thirds of Tyros. Along the north side of town, local fisherman dock their small vessels at a series of docks called Fisher's Jetty.
History
Tyros was established by the newly reformed Athelesian Empire to help foster trade with the Isatisian Confederacy. It began as a simple harbor, offering rest for sailors and merchants during their travels, but has since grown into a sizeable town. The city, named after the island it is found on, saw little conflict for much of its fledgling years. It had stability at the helm, with the recently retired Commodore Susanna Direnot spending 34 years of her career stationed in Tyros before returning home in honor. In the years following her retirement, however, the new Commodore Galanis has withstood and beaten back two raids on the harbor with the help of a volunteer militia in 1428 and 1430 AC. There has been talk of bandit activity in the forests surrounding the city of late, but the Commodore has assured his people that there is nothing to worry about.
