The Alpha League

Faction of the Dire Isle

Region of Influence: The Dire Isle, with a new operation in Gylidd Syn Aethri.
Symbol: A bird's head with an 'A' for an eye.
Legends have spoken of giant beasts that dwell in the Brume, sometimes venturing out to sunder civilizations, then returning to the mists. Some say that these creatures are the very children of Vrokíva itself, brought about to punish those who would despoil the world. But as the Brume recedes, these Dire Beasts have turned out to be all too real. More and more, these titanic and often unique creatures have been sighted, and all too often, destroyed.   There are those, however, who believe that these strange creatures are a necessary part of the natural order, and that destroying them is in fact worse than letting them exist, bringing down Vrokiva’s wrath. These intrepid few seek to study the strange monsters birthed from the Brume, understand them, and find ways to co-exist with them.

Base of Operations

The faction is based out of Direwall, on the Dire Isle. However, recently it has begun moving into a compound in Gylidd Syn Aethri.

History of the Alpha League

The League was founded 130 years ago by Zeta Vubayrn, a descendant of the ancient hero Zac, after they witnessed the ascension of Moatenka to Alphadom.

Goals of the Alpha League

The League seeks out monsters, especially seemingly unique ones, for study. Harming such creatures is forbidden, except in the most extreme circumstances. Its members endeavor to understand the Beasts of the Brume, and find ways to coexist with them. Determining how these creatures are created, and how to predict their movements, is paramount.

Leaders of the Alpha League

Presently, the League is run by a council of 11 leading researchers, though the nature of the group’s mission means only a handful can meet at a time.

Membership and Structure

Members of the Alpha League are typically known as Leaguers or Alpharians. League members generally don’t have an informal name, although outsiders may call them “madmen” or “a bloody nuisance”.

Joining the Alpha League

Contact with the League is usually conducted at Alpha League research bases, established at sites near potential monster habitats, or at League headquarters. To join the League, one must be sponsored by a current member, and then submit a thesis containing new information or unique samples of a Brume monster.     ((A new PC would most likely be mentored by a Senior Researcher, while working at a research base. If not a League member, then the mentor may be a Junior Councilman, grooming the PC before sponsoring them for membership, or using them as an outside agent.))

Organization

Advancement in the League is accomplished by applying for a higher position with the Research Council. If the application is accepted, the claimant must then submit a written thesis or unique sample, like a new member. The claimant must then defend the thesis or sample before a panel of at least 3 rank 4 or 5 councilmembers.

Rank 1 - Assistant Researcher. This rank comes with access to League properties and research data.
