The Dungeon of Graves: Session 23

General Summary

What’s the Plan Again?

Tucked safely in the familiar coastal cove, the Shrike’s collection wake up to incredibly powerful winds coming from the sea. The 28th of Zhira was cloudy yet above freezing which was a welcomed comfort. Before delving back into the dungeon, they all make preparations for the day. Their new companion, Halxion, a twilight cleric of Tlombi channels their Inaethri’s power making the entire group sturdier. Afterward, Mogg and Vai’len gather some supplies for Kaertas to resummon Terrance. The forge cleric, Nam, silvered some more bolts while the others packed up their camp. As they leave, Mogg receives a Sending from Inako. She warned that they have received some reports that Wrenjer’s might be lurking in the area west of them. They seemed to be searching for something, near the village, and if they get in the way to kill them.   While they headed towards the Dungeon of Graves, they discussed possibly heading over to Zelkor’s Ferry to talk with the group. Vai’len offers that if the Wrenjers were to stumble upon them and hinder their efforts, they should just tell them about the Vampire and the area around Simrath’s mausoleum being corrupted. She clearly states that they would let them know of the dangers beforehand. They discuss possible options but still head to the dungeon for the day. Instead of taking the key and entering the dungeon through the mausoleum, they decided to take the rat tunnels down. Mogg was able to find the tunnel after a small amount of time. These tunnels are used often but the dirt around them constantly moves from the activity.   Climbing down the tunnel is difficult as it is a tight space and rather steep, but they make it down the first tunnel. Every now and then, they have to move some bones out of the way but it opens into the same area they had discovered before behind the ogres room. Instead of taking the same path they decided to move down the opposite tunnel they hadn’t scouted before. This tunnel is even tighter but eventually opens up. Mogg could tell that they had traveled deeper into the dungeon than they have been but just a bit.   Clearing the dirt from their hair and clothing, the adventurers climb out of the tunnel into a slightly larger tunnel with an opening at the end. A familiar sense of foreboding encompasses each of them, with most able to shake it off. It grows stronger as they make their way towards the opening. Mogg can see two large piles of detritus in the cavern as well as stirges around the ceiling and as they step into the darkness they can see the Wight waiting patiently for food to move through the area. Seeing this Mogg heads back and signs to Halxion what they see, who signs the information to the others. They all ready, with Vai’len taking a hopeful step back as she had been stricken with a sense of impending death. Learning about the Wight, Nam casts a spell trying to be as quiet as he could.   Unfortunately the Wight heard and quickly advanced upon the party stuck in the small tunnel. Seeing the heavily armored Lothar and the nimble but not as fortified Vai’len, the Wight strikes the weaker one taking some of her lifeforce with them. Battle continues with the Wight quickly falling to Mogg’s arrow; however, sensing the battle more Wights emerge from the piles of detritus and advance to the group. Even with the tight quarters the group manages to finish off the combatants without anyone taking more damage but the frightened rogue. Moving into the room to investigate they send Sinestra’s familiar down the passage. Lothar wishes to take some of the bones but some of the others are worried about what would happen to the souls attached to them.   They all advance down the tunnel that Sinestra’s familiar had just scouted, Mogg taking lead by himself as Vai’len cowered in the corner feeling that terrible things were going to happen to her corpse. The room opens up and looks to be a garbage pit as piles of detritus are stacked around the room. There is a creature among one of the piles, blending in. Standing on four legs with a rather large mouth on it’s chest, they are able to identify it as a large aberration that eats refuse. They tend to dwell in darkness, ambush and are telepathic. As the others moved in, the creature seemed more scared of them than they were of it, except for the rogue. There are a couple tunnels north of them and Halxion can hear creatures talking in heated whispers.   Mogg moves up through the tunnels and spots two ogres talking, falling back to the group to report they decide to draw the ogres out through the small tunnels. This worried the garbage creature who tried to hide themselves further into the detritus. Working with the plan, the range wait patiently in the open area, well everyone except Kaertas who strides in and casts a Fireball into the room, killing one Ogre and alerting them all to the group. The frontline moves up into the tunnels as Nam is able to hear the ogres yell “Get the finger waggler and some rocks.” Lothar takes a few hits as boulders hit the cleric but eventually they all fall back and the ogres block the entrances.   With their plan thwarted, they talk in the garbage room. MAX introduces themself and offers that they take another path in which they follow and plan to attack the alerted ogres down a different tunnel.
