Standing in the room where the goblins inhabited Castle Calaelen , the group looks about scanning the mess the goblins lived in. It was different from other goblins across of Myzelis and many wondered what was wrong with these. They discuss if they should do a circuit before moving to the door with the skull handle. Meadbh, Jalen, and Rain made their way around the hallway moving quietly while the others remained near the door and the staircase that would have led down if the ceiling hadn’t fallen. Jalen and Meadbh work together investigating the southern door while Rain went off on her own heading to the northwestern door. Upon that one there is a sigil that catches their eye. It matched the same symbol their companion, Croaker carried with them. However, it has been defiled with a large “x” through the sigil.
While the other two joined the ranger, Rain specifically tells Jalen about the door who inspects it and unlocks it before they all return to the group. After informing the others what they had found, they all move to the defiled door. Croaker leading the charge. But as they are about to start to investigate the door more thoroughly, Rain wanders off by themselves to the door Jalen and Meadbh had listened to moments ago. The group had been scattered around the defiled church to Tlombi but with Rain’s movement, it caught Zetwuzadi’s attention who called the group to hold until they rejoined.
Rain pushes open the door which leads to a spare supply room, or castle maintenance room but it has been ransacked many years before. At the center of the room, there was a large rowboat or canoe suspended from the ceiling by ropes. Their curiosity gets the best of them and they peer inside to have a giant spider attack them. Rain takes a huge hit and is barely alive. Croaker and Meadbh make eye contact and somehow Croaker is able to move to help Rain even though the rest of the group seemed surprised. The cleric of Tlombi heals their companion before turning their attention back to the group. Rain gets hit once again by the spider and is still standing while around the church door the group can hear shuffling and as it opens, arrows shoot out from swirling, tangible darkness from within the room and hit Meadbh square in her chest. She had been standing farther back but had moved up to not be standing off by herself. As she fell to the ground, unconscious, Uzadi had made it to the spider and attacked the creature.
Ferric yells down to the group around the supply room that they are being attacked up here and moves heroically into the room of darkness. The druid can feel the darkness hurting them and yells back out “the room, itself, is corrupted.” Ferric can see that any surface that had once been adorned to honor Tlombi , it has been defaced. At the far end, the statue’s head had been replaced by a demonic face of a wicked looking pig with a mouth contorted into a smile, the statue had been manipulated and pieces had been added to it. The original sword had been severed and has been replaced with a wicked mace with a skull. After successfully taking in the horrid sight of the room they deal a bunch of damage to the skeletons who had just downed their companion.
The rogue moves back up to the group, carrying a torch, which reveals the one creature Ferric was unable to see. At the center of the darkness was a hooded goblin who reached out and tried to hit the rogue. The torch sputters a bit but holds strong. Croaker is able to see Meadbh down and heals them as they approached the group turning around from the supply room. Rain is able to finally move from the spider but remains in the room. Ferric, still standing just inside the room once dedicated to the worship of Tlombi falls to arrows. As the hooded goblin moves in, the people standing in the hallway can feel the lifeforce being sucked out of them. They move in and attack Meadbh who falls again. Uzadi is still stuck fighting the spider but is able to do some great damage, nearly killing the creature.
While many of their companions are fighting for their lives, Rain is finally able to kill the spider. In the hallway, there was nothing the group could do to help stop the aura of darkness killing them. They would rise to fall instantly. Ferric laid dead, bleeding out inside the church. Meadbh laying quiet atop her Hurdy Gurdy as the light flicks from her eyes. Ambrose and Jalen falling to the darkness near the goblin’s room. Croaker standing up to the goblin gets their special attention while the goblin summons their spiritual weapon to hurt the servant of Tlombi . Zetwuzadi is barely able to make their way to goblin until they fall to the aura. Rain, standing just in the doorway of the supply room, watches as the last of their companions fall. They try in vain to attack the goblin but instead it just draws their attention. Rain runs thinking of their family. They make it to the hole with the dangling rope when the goblin is finally able to see the sneaky ranger as the morning light trickles in from the arrow slits, illuminating the furbolg. The hooded goblin moves up making sure their aura of darkness just claims the final soul of the Wrenjers and their friends. The Master gained many new minions that day.
