Zaidrainen
Demographics
The community is made up of outcasts, criminals, and wanderers. Many of them have been living in the Zaidral Desert for multiple generations and have adapted to the harsh climate. They are largely ignored by the surrounding countries. They created a community here out of necessity, typically because they were cast out of their original homes (either due to crime or persecution).
Government
There is no formal government or laws. People try to stay fair in their dealings, and if they don't, most of them have weapons. They are usually willing to settle disputes with violence if peaceful options fail.
Defences
They have walls built with the excavated stone around the village. The walls are not guarded, but there's only one entrance to the village.
Industry & Trade
Wanderers will trade various meat, skins, and plant material for water, shelter, prepared food, or clothing. People in the village rely on the traders to gather these important resources for them.
Infrastructure
They have a water collection system that gathers water on the top of the plateaus and funnels it into a cistern.
The paths are tight and often winding. They have lanterns fueled by a slow burning resin secreted by one of the badaru (an insect) in the desert along the paths and in their homes and shops.
Tourism
People do not visit this area as tourists. People do what they can to avoid the desert entirely, and Zaidrainen is pretty deep in the desert. People only end up here if they cannot go anywhere else.
Architecture
They have built into the caves and also excavated structures in the plateaus.
Geography
This is located in a rocky part of the desert. There are caves and plateaus in the area.
Climate
It is very hot and dry.
Natural Resources
There are edible fungi growing in the caves, but it is very dangerous to collect.
