Mages' Reverie
<Am-ee>
Mages' Reverie, also known as Myth, is an addictive drug made from the Ammi Petal. It is incredibly popular among spellcasters and mages, as it opens the mind and makes it more susceptible to enchantments and illusions. Light dosage allows those to imbibe it to enhance their perception of reality, while higher doses can conjure blissful illusions that seem to last hours.
Prolonged use increases the effect substantially, but can cause paranoia, hallucinations, and a disconnect from reality during withdrawal.
Properties
Material Characteristics
Processed ammi petal is a crystalline orange powder, looking similar to a finely ground salt in its finished state. Higher quality ammi petal is more lustrous, and has a slight citrus scent. It dissolves easily in water, and tends to darken when exposed to sunlight.
It does not have a strong taste, but tends to fizz when subjected to water or saliva.
History & Usage
History
Everyday use
Without the additional use of magics, Mages Reverie acts simply as a relaxant and sedative, used to destress or relieve pain.
The drug tends to react strongly when its user is subjected to illusions and enchantments, causing them to last many times longer than before and can keep the user awake for hours in a half-conscious dream state. When the effects finally wear off, most users report feeling well rested, and retain strong memories of their time under its effects.
Unfortunately, many spellcasters can become addicted to their blissful experiences in the reverie, using their own magics to summon delights for themselves. Prolonged use can blend together the users memories and experiences, making reality difficult to discern from dream. Reality can become incredibly stressful to addicts, their brain summoning hallucinations in an effort to replicate their time in the reverie.
Manufacturing & Products
Ammi Petal is refined through numerous alchemical processes and combined with several common herbs to create different strains and forms of Mages' Reverie. Once in its powdered state, it is generally infused with another herb or pipeweed and its smoke inhaled. It can also be directly inhaled, but is less effective when it is not heated beforehand.
