Manatek
The reclusive metal men of Challi are rarely seen by mainland inhabitants of Aisoa. While the average farmer is unlikely to ever see one over the course of their entire lives, those who live in the largest cities of the continent may see them in the great banks they have constructed.
Though they are rare, stories about them have become increasingly popular. It is said that they have no need for food, sleep, or even air.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Manatek are generally made of various sorts of metals, stone, and other inorganic material - though some have begun incorporating fine wood as well. Most favor metals resistant to rust, with copper and brass being common for exterior components.
Inside each is an arcane core which powers them, storing their personality and memories. The shape of these cores vary somewhat, but most are cylinders or spheres of glowing crystalline material.
The exact form each manatek takes is largely up to them during their creation, and the role they intend to take in their society.
Genetics and Reproduction
Manatek are incapable of creating new members of their species without access to the Heartforge located deep inside the mountains of the Island of Challi. The methods by which they create additional manatek is a closely guarded secret, and the Heartforge remains one of the most heavily guarded locations known. It is unknown if any humanoid has ever stepped foot in the forge.
Civilization and Culture
History
It is unknown where the manatek originated, and who created the Heartforge. Conflicting accounts state they were present prior to the arrival of humans on Aisoa, while others state that their civilization was in still in its infancy nearly a thousand years later.
Like the methods by which they propagate their species, their origins are guarded secrets as well. Most individuals have a vague feeling that they once knew this information prior to their construction, but that it was left behind.
