Notes
Hordes of zombies are wandering around the countryside, and withered forests to each side of Laukon city are making movement difficult. The only options are to cut through the city, or to spend weeks in the rough terrain of the forests.
After Kaj's suggestion to check Laukon City's mage academy for helpful supplies, Commander Jademaker gathered Shex, King Tarik, Kehytom, and Taeral for a mission into the city.
Their goal was to open the city gates to allow the army in, and investigate the mage college to see if there was anything useful inside. Once they complete that, they return to the expedition and it moves in through the city.
The party travels towards the city only to find that the gates were already open. They head deeper into the city. Guided by Tarik's knowledge of the city, Taeral's stealthy magic, and Kehytom's careful guidance, the party made it through the city fairly safely.
At the entrance of the gate, they met new kinds of undead. Two spectral creatures with a deathly magic touch (specter), a undead military captain cloaked in shadows (a wight), and a skeletal minotaur. Kehytom barely managed to hold off half the undead while Tarik, Taeral and Shex destroyed the others.
The four continued deeper into the university, to the basements where Tarik knew the professors kept older and more powerful magics. In its basement, a shadowy figure emerged from the wall, more menacing than the other creatures above.
Tarik recognized its face, a minor noble named Lord Byron Winoc - it introduced itself as the Whisperer, and recognized Tarik. It welcomed the prince back to sokol, and congratulated him on his new title.
As it spoke, movement in the darkness. The party was surrounded, and a lumbering beast burst through a door. Made up of roiling, coiling flesh and sinew, it burst into the room to attack Kehytom. From another angle, a huge snake made of bone hissed at Shex, "Paladin!" before sending a specter and wight to fight the orc.
Taeral and King Tarik had their own issues to deal with with a wight and spectre of their own. The battle shifted quickly as Kehytom was engulfed by the monstrosity, and Shex surrounded.
The dwarven berserker managed to cut his way free just long enough to yell, "RUN!" to the young king. He and Taeral retreated as Shex was pummeled into the ground by the horror despite a valiant effort, and the duo was chased by The Whisperer and a wight.
As the duo escaped, they heard the bellowing scream of the horror being killed, but dared not turn back to watch what happened to Kehytom.
