The Rainbow Tower

I'm sorry, I can't go back. I would if I could, but... the tower won't accept us anymore. I've seen too much.
— Kieran Starlight, first survivor
The Rainbow Tower is a strange, multicolored tower on the coast of Aswana. It has developed a strong reputation as an incredibly dangerous magical location, despite appearing very much like a carnival on the outside.

Purpose / Function

The purpose of the Rainbow Tower is unknown. There are no signs, sigils, or symbols on the exterior of the building, and the few survivors who have entered and left have found no messages or clues to its purpose.   Its inhabitants seem intelligent, but are either unable or unwilling to communicate.

Architecture

The Rainbow Tower is a colorful spire-like tower that stands more than 200 meters tall, and is made up of many colorful stones, metals, and several unknown materials.   It has balconies and windows along its exterior with seemingly no intent behind their placement, as well as a large archway entrance.   Stories shared by those who have entered the tower say that the interior is a labyrinthine realm much larger on the inside than the outside, with numerous structures and rooms of many different varieties.

Surrounding Area

The area immediately surrounding the tower is idyllic. Plants and food grow in abundance, and several structures in the same style of the tower surround it - including a well, theatre, and hospital. Decorative statues and carnival-like structures are scattered around the exterior leading towards the entrance.

History

The Rainbow Tower seemingly popped into existence some time during the year 3884 EC. For a time the town of Ogane grew around it, its inhabitants believing they were living near a benevolent god or wizard.   The people of Ogane enjoyed their time near the tower in peace, using the amenities and pre-built town outside the tower. The tower itself was inaccessible, its magic disallowing the townsfolk and visitors entrance. The people of Ogane assumed its creator wanted privacy, and left them alone.   Unfortunately, children began disappearing from the town. It was soon determined that some of the children of the town were able to pass the tower's magical barrier - and some had wandered into the tower and did not return.   When the town's leaders pleading to the tower did not return their children, adventurers were hired. Most were unable to find any way of entering - but several were able to pass the barrier. They did not return.   Ogane was abandoned. Some still live within eyesight of the tower, hoping that the missing people will one day be freed. They still live a peaceful, if disquieting, life at the edge of the tower.

Tourism

Adventurers occasionally came to investigate the tower, but for many years they either failed to gain entry, or disappeared inside. But, almost thirty years after the first people disappeared, someone escaped - with a rescued child.   Kieran Starlight, a young mage who sought to solve the mystery of the tower, escaped with Nalah Sirow, one of the first children who disappeared. Despite the time that had passed, Nalaha showed no signs of aging, and both claimed they had spent only a few terrifying hours inside the tower.   They described a place full of strange monsters and structures, where everyone who had ever entered the tower was simultaneously fighting for their lives. A few missing individuals were confirmed to have perished, and the two narrowly managed to escape.   The existence of survivors brought even more to investigate, despite the people of Ogane warning them away.
