Military action
The 4th Imperial Legion formation, led by General Tempos Cyrian and Eclipse attacked Vernoff and the Gnolls that occupied the city, who were led by Therrg Blackfur, a general of the gnoll hoards. The Legio Imperallis forces were made up of 900 Soldiers and 15,000 Guards raised from Rivershore. On the other side was the gnoll horde, tens of thousands of the savage beasts, their lines bolstered by insane cultists and monsters from the darkest nightmares imaginable.
The initial battle for the walls was fierce, and the guard vanguard, led by Eclipse managed to take the walls with a final push. As such, the army managed to make a large scale push into the city, taking every street and house and cleansing it of the demonic corruption. It is widely recognised that the main phase of the battle would not be as successful, and the walls could not be taken as well, were it not for the initial contributions of Eclipse. However, during the second phase of the battle, a ritual was said to be channeled by the gnolls in caves beneath the Hillside district.
As the blood from the battle rushed towards the caves, Eclipse charged in supported by the Steelpick Clan dwarves that had come from Karak Drotha. They pushed through the streets and slaughtered all in their paths, making their way in to the caves. Close behind them followed Arch Inquisitor Volis Heartbrand with his retinue. What exactly happened in those caves is not known, but it is said that Eclipse defeated Therrg, and whatever horrible rituals they were doing, in the depths of the earth.
Therrg was leading the forces of the Gnolls when Eclipse arrived in Vernoff at the head of the Legio Imperallis. He was found in the depths of the caves beneath the Hillside District, taking part in some horrible ritual, and was engaged by Eclipse. He was a formidable foe, and the battle raged fiercly. In the end, the dagger of Fen was able to pierce the creature's spine, which she followed up by slicing his throat open for good measure.
In the aftermath of the battle, as all the walls were taken, and the Gnolls and Hyenas were in tunnels that could only surface in the city, there was a wholesale slaughter. The streets ran red with gnoll blood, and tens of thousands of gnolls died. The liberation of the city and the death of the gnolls in celebrated on the 320th day of the year, in the Day of the Broken Fang.
