Chapter 2, Session 5: Blades in the Dark
General Summary
'Oh, you had to say that... a shame'This summary is going to be written in a quick bullet point template in order to account for time and the fact the information was wiped because worldanvil hates me:
- aEla-Ryan the Gunblade turns to fight Hermione of Vallea.
- The party decided to stage the break-in to Artur Coric's home.
- The party did this by using Sigholdt and Peregrine as distractions with Sigholdt breaking into a shop from The Fungus Fields and destroying property to force The Drifters guard groups to approach; something supported by Peregrine convincing the guards watching over Coric's estate to investigate this issue themselves.
- Sigholdt destroyed more property and caused more damage before moving to the next room and hiding in their Genie's Vessel as the Drifter guards came through and moved away from him in pursuit of their target.
- With this distraction in place, Esmerae and Hermione of Vallea managed to break in through the front door of Coric's estate (with Hermione eventually taking the lock apart using her tinker's tools as the thieves tools were not working for Esmerae).
- Esmerae and Hermione investigated the estate; finding a variety of strange situations including the fact that the estate had a stench of stale illusion around it. There were several rooms containing scrying windows that looked into spaces, buildings and locations in Sanctuary; including notably the garden of The Celeste Family and the statue of Lykos Celeste which confused and concerned Esmerae. They also found conflicting and strange information on Coric including old tomes and books and letters.
- As the pair walked upstairs Peregrine noticed a strange cloaked figure walking towards the estate and she snuck onto Coric's grounds to warn Hermione and Esmerae as she watched the figure seem to melt through the stone walls of Coric's house to get inside.
- Esmerae and Hermione continued their search and moved upstairs where they found guest rooms in Coric's estate as well as a hidden and camouflaged balcony which they noted for their escape.
- As they entered Coric's main bedroom, they noticed a strange symbol on the ground that the pair of them identified as a spell called 'Fire Mine' which were set to go off soon.
- When this happened, Hermione noticed a cloaked figure attempting to leave but, as she tried to stop the figure, they opened fire on Hermione, notably using a Gunblade to drop her unconscious. Esmerae stayed hidden during this time and, when the gunblade wielder left, she healed Hermione and the two of them did a final search of the house before using the balcony to make an airborne escape using a mixture of Hermione's feather fall and Esmerae's armour of shadows.
- Before they left, Hermione found a chest in Coric's room that was locked but survived a fire mine trap activation.
- While the two of them made their escape, Peregrine tried to use their horns to make a light symbol to draw Hermione and Esmerae's attention but, instead, they drew the attention of the leaving Gunblade who went on the attack and forced Peregrine to try and make an escape; shooting at them and badly injuring Peregrine.
- As Hermione and Esmerae made their escape, the houses mines activated and the estate of Artur Coric caught in flames with the locals in the town coming to look at the space as the gunblade gave up on their pursuit of Peregrine and teleported out of the area.
