Mana

The elf began to move her hands, swirling the mana round and round into a tighter ball. Then she pushed it forward, and it shattered into a thousand purple sparks.

It is used from day to day use, to warfare.

It's not widespread, because being able to use it is not considered wholesome.

Complexity

Fairly simple. Command words and gestures are used to help focus it. Sometimes an item is also used to help coax it to do the will of the user.

Discovery

A human stumbled across a strange pool one day, and tried to drink from it. He essentially became a mutant, and sparked a line of elves.
