The Gifted Land
Long ago, with the gods, the ancients walked out of the sky into this land. The gods supplied the rivers and lakes. They made the plants grow and brought forth from their domain the things that fly and crawl and swim. Then the gods, pleased with their results, gave the land to the ancients to keep, and walked back into the sky, where they rest among the stars.
[Earth's ships came, terraformed the rocky planet into an outpost, and left a small settlement behind. Tens of thousands of years later, the location is home to a technologically deprived human civilization.]
Geography
A wide plateau stretching for miles that contains scrubland, grassland, and moor. Small copses of trees dot the grassy areas. The edges of the plateau are a sharp cliff, with solid ground extending only to the North, from whence the plateau rises. There is little natural shelter from the elements other than caves in the cliffside. It's not quite a desert, but rain isn't frequent. Small lakes dot the plateau, some connected by rivers and streams.
Fauna & Flora
The main flora are grasses, grains, wildflowers, and the occasional small and wizened tree. Copses of larger trees dot the landscape. Fauna are those typical of grassy areas: mice, rabbits, deer, occasional wolves. Small pollinating insects and some songbirds are also present. The rivers and streams contain fish and frogs and the like. Humans believe the region is also inhabited by spirits, who are believed to "possess" humans, though little evidence of these beings exists.
Natural Resources
The small wooded areas provide minimal lumber. Lots of clay, rock, and ore from the cliffsides allow for the construction of hut-structures for housing and for the creation of metal tools. Rivers and streams provide the energy to grind grain. Flint-like substances can be found and struck to create fire.
