Port passes

While they originated among the nations of Yerenth prior to the Sidhen-Orcish Wars, port passes have become a widely used -- and widely accepted -- document throughout Namkural. Each civilized nation prints and produces their own, allowing for slight variations of structure or formatting, but these adhere to a general set of guidelines agreed upon by the bulk of nations on the plane who care to be recognized by or trade with Vendramyr and The Parandor Trading Company.

Purpose

These documents serve as Namkural's passports, recording personal information such as name, race, gender, age, nation of origin, current residence, permissions (what they are allowed to do or when they are allowed to travel) and allowances (what goods they are allowed to transport across the border), restrictions, felony criminal record, and expiration date. At base, each port pass must contain this information as agreed upon by the bulk of countries on the plane who use the documents. However, each issuing nation may also list additional information that is of note to them specifically; for example, port passes issued in Eldimyr often list information related to lineage or noble house. Sylphen port passes will state rank and branch for all active military members as well as retired veterans.   At base, these documents are intended to track the comings and goings of citizens across the plane. Following the pages listing personal information, blank places are included in a small booklet for the purpose of recording border stamps and dates associated with entering or leaving a country -- as well as, in the case of particularly secure borders or checkpoints, who they were accompanied by and what goods they were transporting at the time.

Historical Details

Background

Originally, these documents were used only by the sidhen nations on Yerenth. After the defeat of the orcs and the further rise of other nations on the plane, however, a consortium of powerful countries across Namkural agreed to use port passes for the unification of trade and immigration.
