Prostitution
While in many nations on Namkural, prostitution is at least legal if not regulated, Sadrom is one country where the practice is still banned by law. Much of this attitude stems from the pigeon outlooks on relationships and marriage, as good sylph families are expected to be faithful, uphold one another's reputations, and produce children within the union in order to provide more soldiers for Sadrom's never-ending fight against the goblins to the south. Because of these values, the practice of sex work is illegal throughout the provinces.
Nevertheless, despite these laws, the profession still pulls in a lot of cash for those willing to discreetly practice it. Brothels moonlighting as inns or bars dot the lower class districts if one knows where to look, and even the upper classes are not above the private hiring of courtesans. Indeed, even the famed Crows Nest serves as a front for a whorehouse, though the ability to find prostitutes there is something of an open secret. The powers that be have largely decided that looking the other way is in everyone's best interest, as soldiers do need an outlet. What the cultural norms of excessive drinking and the occasional brawl don't cover, sex generally does.
The peacocks of the tropical provinces are much more accepting of this practice, though they are careful not to flaunt it too brazenly in front of their more uptight brethren. Even so, among the more brightly-plumaged sylphs, prostitution is not a particularly shameful profession -- and many are part of unofficial "guilds" that regulate and set standards so as to protect those who practice it. Particularly because their provinces are known as tourist destinations, the authorities are even more reluctant to crack down on actually enforcing the law. So long as there is a reasonable amount of plausible deniability, practitioners are rarely prosecuted for the crime.
