The Sundering of the Planes
When the plane of Vyril first came into being, it comprised the entire surface of its globe. Possessed of only one magic system -- that being the one that still occupies what is now Vyril -- it was a whole and unbroken plane, if a massive one. This being the natural order of things, it would have existed in perpetuity in this form if not for the meddling of a particular Fey.
Anomesaat, the Prime Archivist of Namkural, was, at the time, researching the potential rammifications of a secondary magical system trying to occupy the same space as a first. While the method by which he created and introduced a second to the plane is a closely-guarded secret known only to Anomesaat himself, the result forever changed the face of Vyril. Localized to the point of origin wherein he 'added' that second set of magical rules to the plane, the repulsion of one system from another cratered the planet and blasted a major portion of its surface into the atmosphere.
Namkural, the collective name for the floating pieces that now comprise their own plane of existence, would not exist if not for this magical disaster. Similarly, the material plane of Torresind -- which sits in the cratered hollow where Namkural once resided -- also came about as a direct result of this event. Having unintentionally split one plane into three, Anomesaat now presides over the continued study of Namkural and the influence of its magic system. The magic he introduced is the one that today still exists on both Namkural and Torresind.
