It landed in the northmost reaches, rendering its immediate vicinity inhospitable. But from within its deepest recesses came a corrupting blight, enslaving those affected under a miasma of hatred towards life. Countries fell, and states banded together to fight the Midnight Horde. The Northern Reaches, engaged in a bitter and desperate struggle for survival, isolated themselves and became the much-needed barrier halting the corrupting influence of the Midnight Star. The Midlands, so concerned with its own safety, rapidly centralized into the Izeran Federation. The Frontiers, once bastions of civilization, faded into warlordism and banditry. The Western Jungles, frozen in time yet at the mercy of the new reality. In the ashes of the old world, a new world - fraught with dangers and wonders - is born.   Yet, in those dying embers, the past clings like an infant child.
