The Feywild

The elven afterlife is a truly beautiful place and even now, I have a hard time putting that beauty into words. Even still,  that beauty must have been marred during my time there, due to the Fey Civil War. I can only imagine what the Feywild looked like during it's prime. - Notes of Sigfyrd Handler, Adventurer   The Feywild, also known as Elder Realm, was a plane of existence created by The Eres; Eldath and Silvanus. The Feywild appears as an enchanted, magical, setting with permanent seasons and climates. Inhabitants of this realm include various creatures such as Eladrin, Fairies, and other creatures of magic and natural disposition. The Feywild serves as the afterlife to Naneth's elven races. Legend dictates that as an elven soul departs the Mortal Plane, it arrives in the Feywild renewed and in the changed form of an Eladrin.

History

As the Age of Creation drew to an end, Eldath, Silvanus, and many other Eres decided to vacate Naneth and the Mortal Plane entirely, leaving the stewardship of the world they'd created in the hands of humans, elves, dwarves and other races. The Feywild was created by Eldath and her brother, Silvanus, as they withdrew from the world. The Feywild became their new home upon its creation. The Feywild would begin to serve another purpose, becoming the final resting place for the elves of the Mortal Plane, a final reward for those dedicated to the service of The Siblings. Eldath would place the passed souls of the Eldar into a new form, also of Eldath's design; the Eladrin. Very little is known about the Eladrin as a whole, other than their original purpose of becoming perfect beings in Eldath's eyes.   In late AoR 608, a group of Astoran adventurers claimed to have travelled to the Feywild and returned. They spoke of grand cities, breathtaking landscapes and strange creatures. Travel to the Feywild is rare, though not completely unheard of. But these claims were ultimately dismissed, based on the lack of proof and the fantastical nature of the claims.

Geography

No direct accounts exist on the exact lay of the Feywild, for it's rumoured to be an ever-changing realm. Most of the information known about this realm is deduced by elven seers and scholars, most of whom claim to have visions of the realm whilst convening in nature. Through the stories and hearsay, scholars believe that the essence of the Feywild boils down to the presence of four separate areas of permanent seasons; summer, spring, winter and fall. It's theorized that each of these regions is ruled by separate entities. Stories point to the existence of large cities existing in this realm, with the largest two being located in the areas of Winter and Summer. These settlements are overseen by a subsequent council or court. It is unclear if the siblings, Eldath or Silvanus, have any hand in the formation or creation of these communities, or how much they influence the events inside this realm at all.   Furthermore, academics on the subject believe that the passage of time may flow differently in the Feywild when compared to the Mortal Plane. This likely trait of the Feywild is widely accepted among the educated of Naneth, considering that a similar phenomenon is experienced by those that can traverse the Ethereal Plane. However, the rate of time passage is unknown.

Access

Access to the Feywild seems to hinge on the will of The Siblings, granted only through their will. However, legend states that pockets of magic connected to the Feywild lie deep within the natural wonders of Naneth, such as within the Ironwood Forest or Sunrise Jungle. According to incomplete texts from the Ironwood Forest, druids and priests of the old Ironwood Kingdom may have been able to traverse between the Mortal Plane and the Feywild at will. Regardless, that knowledge was surely lost with the burning of Arnad-Ang.
