The Academy Ale House, more commonly known as "The House" is a large tavern in
Vinguard and is the only drinking house found on Academy Grounds. It is owned and operated by a Vinguard local, Harris Hale, who built and opened the tavern after he completed schooling at the Academy. Many believe that The House was allowed to open at the Academy due to an effort to keep students off the streets on Vinguard at night when a large portion of them would be inebriated.
Apart from serving the Academy with a drinking hole, The House also provides students with the opportunity to work whilst continuing their studies. Harris often hires only students, leading to a large rate of staff turnover.
History
The House was built in AoR 593 and opened in AoR 594, becoming the first tavern to be opened on
Academy Grounds. This was allowed in part to the deal that was struck between the owner; Harris Hale and the Academy. Portions of the profits made at The House would be paid to the Academy and the tavern itself would have strict rules on drinking times and closing times. Harris, a former student of the Academy himself, agreed to these terms, and opened on the 1st of Redfall AoR 594, just in time for the new semester.
In AoR 599,
Headmaster Bell renegotiated the terms of the agreement with The House, threatening Harris with a shutdown otherwise. The renegotiation was successful, though it led to new rules which see the bar close by 11pm and the entirety of the tavern locked by 1am.
Layout
The House serves as only a tavern, making it one of the only taverns in Vinguard without an attached sleeping area. Though the tavern itself is quite large, the entirety of it serves as a seating and bar area.
