The Spell Forge
The Spell Forge was an ancient and magical structure, found deep within the confines of the Vilmyr Mountains and Wave Echo Cave. It was a forge with the capability to infuse mundane items with scores of magic. The Spell Forge was rumored to be a tool of Armok himself, a legend begun by the early dwarven miners that discovered the location.
Location
The Spell Forge itself, was located within the winding, labyrinth like, system of Wave Echo Cave. Wave Echo was found deep within the confine of the Vilmyr Mountain range, which sat in the Northwestern region of Astora. Marklund, the dominantly dwarven settlement, was found nearby, only a few miles south of Wave Echo Cave.Interior
The Forge itself, stood within the cave system as a very large, circular room. The entrance to this room was closed off with two heavy iron doors. The Forge was interconnected with another room, an area where weapons and armor were to be polished, after being forged in magic.History
Discovery
In AoR 325, the Spell Forge was discovered deep with the Vilmyr Mountains, inside Wave Echo Cave. This discovery was made by the dwarves of Marklund, whom quickly deemed the site a legendary tool of Armok. Because the site contained vast pools of magical power, the site was shared with human wizards of Astora, who jumped at the chance to study the forge's ancient secrets. The Spell Forge captured the interest of many magic users, wise scholars, and adventurers across Astora. The intense convergence of these powerful minds in Astora, led to the founding of Veth Monra, an academy of learning and magical training. The Spell Forge became one of their chief projects and prime focus of research. Additionally, the joint efforts over The Spell Forge between humans and dwarves further solidified the close alliance between the two races.Ironwood War; Loss of The Forge
In AoR 398, the Ironwood War began, and thrust Astora, it's cities and organizations, into a bloody conflict with a neighboring nation. The entire region became unstable, and little was left unscathed from the conflict with the elves. This included Marklund, Wave Echo Cave, and the Spell Forge. In AoR 408, the Ironwood Kingdom attacked Marklund, beginning a large siege on the city. Additional forces were sent by the elves, with the objective of taking the Spell Forge, and turning it's power in their favor. The dwarves of Marklund, having joined with Astora in the war, mounted a defense of Wave Echo Cave, alongside support from mages and wizards from Veth Monra. The battle was fierce, and the casualties began to mount outside and inside the caverns. Eventually the tide turned, with the elves gaining the upper hand. Instead of surrendering, the remaining forces of dwarves and wizards sacrificed themselves to stop the Spell Forge from falling into enemy hands. A great explosion of magical energy rocked Wave Echo Cave, collapsing the entrance and the outermost tunnels, burying all the Astoran forces, and majority of the Ironwood forces, inside the cave. The elves retreated from Marklund and the mountains, with Wave Echo Cave and the Spell Forge becoming lost to the outside world.Re-Discovery; Remnant Activity
In AoR 599, word spread across Astora that Wave Echo Cave may have been located by a dwarven mining company, owned by Gundren Rockseeker. Gundren, his brothers, and his employees, after a series of setbacks, did eventually uncover the cave, though they had been followed and attacked in the process. Remnant forces, led by the mysterious Black Spider, converged on the cave, hoping to take the Spell Forge for themselves. This group was a more troublesome example than most other cells of Remnants, and their leader; Nezzar, was rumored to have ties to The Quaan Empire itself. However, through the work of individuals such as Eilleth of Astora, and Donamere Dodain, The Black Spider and his ilk were eliminated from the Spell Forge. Finally, after almost 200 years, Wave Echo Cave had been reclaimed by Astora, with Veth Monra immediately beginning work within it's caverns again. For their work reclaiming the forge, Donamere and his group; The Marklund Five, were praised as heroes within the dwarven city, and to lesser extent, all of Astora.
