The Vinguard Theatre is an establishment in Vinguard that is well-suited for staging shows of a dramatic, musical or comedic nature. The building contains an auditorium with multiple levels of seating via balconies. Several halls of dressing rooms, housing and lounge areas sit outside of the main stage.
The theatre also features an outside stage, where most performances during the summer are held. Surrounding the Vinguard Theatre is a district of large townhouses, most of which are used for actor and employee housing, permanently, or on a rental basis.
History
Founding
The Vinguard Theatre was built in AoR 498 by the newly formed
Torchwood Theatre Company. It opened in late AoR 499, with the Torchwood Company producing every performance shown at the theatre. Though the Torchwood Company had looked to give the building a name after their own organization, the city of Vinguard denied this request, fearing that a facility with named relations to the infamous
Operation Torchwood would become a target for vandalism or arson. Hence, the name would remain the "Vinguard Theatre".
Sale
In AoR 515, citing poor attendance and low engagement with the community, the Torchwood Theatre Company looked towards a move to
Vinheim, hoping a move to the Astoran metropolis would revive the state of the organization. In doing so, the company would sell the Vinguard Theatre to the city, relinquishing all ownership in the process. Vinguard would initially use the building as an extra storage space, for beginning to rent the facility to local artists looking to put on shows.
By AoR 530, The Torchwood Theatre Company had exploded in popularity, becoming known across Astora and
Meridian as a premier provider of entertainment. Torchwood would look to re-acquire the building in which the company was born, though were denied. Since then, Vinguard has leased the theatre to the Torchwood Company for months at a time, rather than selling it outright.
