House of Learning

Situated at the center of Pluthem, the House of Learning is an institution of academic and magical education, as well as a recruitment platform for the Enlightened Few.
Enrollment and subsequent education is free, but one must continually prove themselves worthy of said education through demonstrations of knowledge and magecraft or face immediate expulsion and lifetime ban of attendance, meaning that everyone gets exactly one chance to show the strict faculty that they are worth their time.
The dean, one Fyodor Grumly is especially ruthless and demanding, expelling students who have excelled up until a single mistake in one of his classes.

History

The House of Learning began its existence as the first guild-hall for the Enlightened Few, back when the Tapestrum Arcanum was first discovered. During those days, the Enlightened Few recruited solely through referral by already existing members, and formal training was considered just that, a mere formality. Only after misuse of magic by its members became a widespread image issue for the guild did they consider a more education focused approach to recruitment.
So the guild claimed the largest observatory in Pluthem as their new guild hall and relegated the old one to the duty of schooling and testing those who would seek membership. Thus was born the House of Learning.
