Mask of Substitution

Used by the Voyagers in their rituals, the Masks of Substitution are personalized masks that have a long spike in their inner lining, designed to penetrate through the nasal cavity into the pre-frontal cortex, effectively lobotomizing the wearer. It is designed in this way to facilitate the permanent transfersal of a Voyager into the Tapestrum Arcanum.

Design

Each mask is designed by the Voyager that will wear it and often represents their greatest fear or impedance in regards to their lifelong commitment. Some might have masks that resemble skulls, indicating a fear of the ritual failing and the wearer just dying, while others may have completely featureless masks symbolizing their fear of the unknown, of which the Tapestry is the greatest.
