Fire and Ice 2
General Summary
2 Arodus 4713
We loaded the gear we'd discovered onto Billy. Once that was done, a lone red-haired dwarf came trudging out of the forest. Naturally we were a bit suspicious, but he didn't come from the same direction the bandits' tracks went in, and he said he only wanted to talk. He said his name was Igmar and he was in the forest collecting supplies for something or other. To be honest, I didn't really follow everything he was saying. I was distracted by the fact he was carrying a gun. Honestly, what is with the guns? I'm 68 years old, and in all that time, I have never seen anyone with a gun until yesterday. Now I've seen four. So I was distracted by thinking about this bizarre situation. At any rate, Igmar requested to come with us, and we agreed, though Cassy was a bit wary. To me, he seemed a reasonably enough guy. And he certainly came in useful in the battles to come. He never actually used that gun, but he did show skill with an axe. I'm getting ahead of myself again, aren't I? Right. Where was I? Oh yes, Igmar came with us as we continued following the bandits' tracks. As we made our way through the forest, a massive green-and-white-scaled lizard leapt out of the trees at Cassy, grabbing her in its jaws and breathing poison gas at her. Cassy weathered it fine though--the poison that is. The creature's teeth certainly messed her up a bit. Come to think of it, I really only have her word for it that it was poison gas, as no one else recognised what that creature was. For all I know, that gas was just bad breath or something and Cassy was just bigging herself up, but I don't really have any reason to doubt her either. She doesn't seem the lying sort. Anyway, Cassy said the creature was called a tattyworm or tasselworm or something like that. It was a complicated word I'd never heard before. It was a distant cousin to dragons apparently, so she said we could now claim we'd killed a dragon. Oh yeah, we freed her from its grip and killed it. As for calling the creature a dragon...it was fierce, but a dragon? No. A wannabe dragon perhaps. So I'll happily tell everyone I've killed a wannabe dragon. After that, we discovered a group of trees with strange fetishes hanging from the branches. The trees turned out to be hiding tiny fey creatures that attacked us with miniature bows and arrows. They looked like teeny tiny elves with fairy wings. Honestly, they would have been cute if they weren't so annoying. Their arrows really didn't do much, but they kept ducking in and out of the trees, and they were so small, it was next to impossible to hit them. I threw so much fire that hit nothing more than air and snow. Eventually, we drove them away and discovered the fetishes were crows frozen in ice. Okay, so those fey were far from cute. Then we met a talking elk! Really! Well, sort of. This elk started talking to us, wanting to know who we were, and what we were doing. It was particularly interested in learning what our abilities were, the things we could do, etc. It really pushed to learn that. Cassy decided we would just keep going on after politely saying we didn't know what our abilities were. So the real owner of the voice attacked her. It turned out the voice was actually an invisible fey creature. It was tiny like the other ones we met and looked basically like them, though according to Cassy was a different type. I forget the specific names, but the other ones had blue skin and this one was green, so...shrug. Different, I guess. After we drove the fey off, we reached a stream. The trail led right up to it and continued on the other side. Near the edge of the stream stood a snowman with a sign saying to get lost. Cassy shot the snowman with her gun, splattering it all over the place. She said she didn't trust it. To be fair, I don't blame her as it turned out to be trapped. When Grinner got close to where it used to stand, a magical voice called out, scolding us for not reading the sign and telling us to get lost. Grinner kept going and set off the trap, which was a big loud booming sound. Loud enough to actually damage Grinner. It also alerted a group of ice creatures that swam out of the stream and attacked us. These weren't quite so bad as the fey. Easier to hit, but also hit harder than the fey. At any rate, we dispatched them. Ooh, fancy word that! "Dispatched"! I'm becoming a real writer or something. We're actually starting to function pretty well as a group, and starting to develop effective tactics. And I have to be honest. It's nice to be around people who don't seem to care that I'm an undine who plays with fire. Anyway, then we had to cross the stream. I tested the water and it was cold. I mean, really cold. The kind of cold that might actually affect me. However, it's been ages since I last got to submerge myself in water, so I took the rist and jumped in. It wasn't very deep, but like I said, cold. I made it across without problem though. Then we had to get the others across. Oh, damn. Gotta go. I'll finish this later.Talk later,
Izzy.
