Band of the Eagles
History
The Band of the Eagle or referred to as officially as 'The Eagle Company' was originally a meager gathering of rag tag mercenaries and bandits that where all drawn to common purpose under the wing of the famed Eagle Knight Gustov Radisson of Sturn who wished to make a change in the world for the lower class warriors and embraced the Tulairian influence of democracy practiced on and off the battlefield. The bands principal members include a former half elf slave Zal Gauthier, Gustov Radisson The Famed Eagle Knight of Sturn, James Marshal former bandit leader, and the dwarf Yovan Ironbreaker a thieves gang leader from Kar'Idran. Together they formed The Eagle company in 1350 AF after a vicious battle serving the Harspund family on the Krest plains.
Goals and Structure
Though the company is run by a famed knight and rag tag ruffians, it is not without its own goals. The principal founding members, all embraced the famed Eagle Knights yearning to make a change in the world of soldiering, mercenary. and banditry work. Rather than conform to the standards of typical Sturnian Army politics they company would embrace it's own legislative nature, and have elections for the highest ranking positions and no rank could be purchased via commision but had to be earned via commendations or battlefield prowess. Within the company members are expected to hold acquired independent sub-contracts and keep work available for any soldiers they are responsible for, though each soldier in the company may also seek employment with any willing employer as long as the Company's name and values are upheld. The numbers of soldiers in the company has varied over the years. In 1361 AF, it is recorded as having 3,500 cavalry and 2,000 infantry. The company is organised in lance fournies (squads) of three able bodies; a man-at-arms, a squire and a page. Of these, only the man-at-arms and squire are armed. These lances are organised into contingents, each under a corporal, who had often an independent sub-contractor. This structure has givrn the company a certain democratic element. The company containes numbers of infantry, particularly mostly of Sturnian longbowmen and Sturnian men-at-arms. These could be mounted on horses as were the 600 involved in the Battle of Fort Mirador in 1358 AF. In addition to its military structure, the company has an administrative staff, usually Tulairian, of chancellors and notaries who managed the legal and contractual aspects of the company's relationship with its employers, and a treasurer to handle its financial affairs. The Eagle Company's treasurer is a dwarf, founding member, and former head of a thieves guild, Yovan Ironbreaker. The companies headquarters and main recruitment drive is stationed in The Free City of Tulaire. Though the company often seeks out employment from nobles from the nearby Empire of Sturn their contracts reign far and wide to all corners of Nespiere.
