Corpse Dragger
A mass of black writhing tentacles similar to a shogath, corpse draggers are distinct in that they will try to incorporate humanoids into their body to add mass and strength. By stabbing and weaving their fibrous tentacles through a body, living or dead, they are able to gain control over it as if it has always been a part of the shogath. This process can take a number of days before they will never have human level dexterity, however they can articulate individual limbs within a day or so, and are able to restrain a living person or move only slightly inhibited by a corpse within a matter of minutes. Even after a full infestation however, due to their low inteligence without a functioning connection to a brain they will mostly drag or roll around and lash out at nearby living things, trying to get its tentacles into them. Inhabiting both sea and land their origns are unknown, however they are more likely to be found near battlefields like those of the dead bridge or the lands between Pyre Glaa and Afrea.
There are many an unsettling story veterans of the war tell of hearing someone they know yelling for help only to find them bound to a few dead bodies and unable to move of their own volition. Some beg to be cut out, but a small piece of a tentacle left in the skin can grow into a whole shogath in two days time, it's much safer to put them out of their misery as unpleasant as it may be. Others just cry or seize or scream. The most inexplicable are the stories of some seemingly fresh body being found controlled by a corpse dragger, no other injuries, and no other bodies attatched to it.
With enough time, a corpse dragger infestation can become a serious problem for rural communities. When it becomes too large for burning oil to be effective in stopping its movement, one course of action that has stopped the rotting mass, is immobilizing it by piling logs around and onto it, then starting a large fire and keeping it burning for 2 days. This seems to be how long it takes all the shogath to be starved out without any rotting meat, as this fire wouldn't be hot enough to kill them outright.
