Personal history
Thadgrack grew up in
Neverwinter, to a humble family; His father a struggling money lender.
Thadgrack constantly witnessed his father be taken advantage of and abused. He
attempted to get revenge on these thugs, but instead found himself drawn to
their lifestyle; Freedom of choice, ruling through strength of arm,
blackmailing, racketeering, theft; These all became common to Thadgrack as he
fell further and further into the criminal lifestyle. Detached from his family
and refusing to live the meager life they did, he left them and fully embraced
the world of crime.
After a few
successful heists and gigs, Thadgrack was beginning to generate clout. That
quickly turned, as his reputation left him as the scapegoat for a local theft
of a high profile Crime Boss. Fearing reprisal and backlash, he fled on the
first boat leaving the harbour he could sneak into and be a stowaway on. Having
cut his family off, he saw no reason to stay and risk the wrath for this heist
he didn’t commit. The boat turned out to be bound for Luskan; while stowed away
below deck attempting to elude the sailors, the boat was caught in a terrible
storm. In the chaos Thadgrack ran above deck, the intensity of the sudden storm
throwing his caution to the wind.
It was at this
point, while trying to maintain his balance on the slick deck that he looked up
into the dark and raging storm clouds, only to make out the form of a massive
bearded face in the clouds, one eye covered by a patch; This face let out a
massive lightning bolt that crashed into the mast, the impact and power
splintering the ship to pieces instantly. Overwhelmed by the pure power of the
tempest, Thadgrack was knocked unconscious among the wreckage, managing to use
a chunk of the ships hull as a make shift raft before passing out.
The ship was off
course due to the storm, and he awoke on a frigid shore, clearly somewhere in
the North. Fortune had allowed him to keep his purse, and underdressed he
trudged towards the closest of the Ten Towns; Bremen. Throughout the journey
all he could fixate on was that face in the clouds, the fury it had dispensed;
He couldn’t help but think that face had seen him through the storm and washed
him up on these shores, the tempest it self providing him a re birth. Its power
was almighty and omnipotent, it could have crushed him like a bug in that
storm; But it had not. He had been given a second chance, and he would use that
to worship this almighty being responsible for it. He would cast aside his life
of crime that in the end had brought nothing but misery, and focus his life on
spreading the word of Talos, and how through worship anyone can change their
life. Thadgrack discarded his thieves tools, and broke off a piece of the board
that had carried him to the shore; This would be his holy symbol, a constant
reminder of the second chance he was given.
After landing in
Ten-Towns, Thadgrack survived relying on his heritage and masonry skills. He
traded with merchants as much as he could for bibles, books and scrolls -
Anything that would allow him to expand his knowledge of Talos and his
teachings. You could often find him on the Maer Dualdon in the middle of a
storm, attempting to replicate that moment where he bore witness to Talos'
glory. Eventually after much self
reflection and training, he became a Cleric of Talos, worshipping the Tempest
Domain, and leveraging its destructive power to strike down non-believers, and
those who prevent the spreading of the world of Talos.
He adventures to
spread the word of Talos, and offer the same redemption he was given to the
lost souls of the world.
