Noordica hothut
Noordica Hothut
The Noordica hothut descended from the nomadic peoples who wandered on the vast frozen expanses that make up the landmass border with the northern icy sea. They used small round dome-shaped tents where during their bath rituals they used hot stones which they then dipped in a cavity with ice and water. The hot stones made water vapor spread in the small tent. The ritual developed over time and when parts of the nomadic peoples began to reside, the hothut also became part of the first houses that were built in the newly created permanent residences. At the resident tribes, the hut became a central place. There they gave birth to their children, and there they woke up the death of their elderly people, and there they were cared for by the sick. There is a saying that says "if tar oil and hut do not help. Then you are lost"Syfte / Funktion
Cleanliness, a virtue, the nordic tribes are often surprisingly clean and the baths constitute a sacred ritual. The hothuts that always exist are central buildings and the ritual that is performed is sacred and the whole family participates in it.
This has meant that it is a gathering point for the whole farm when together they carry out the bath ritual
Arkitektur
From the beginning, it was small dome-shaped tents that were used. They were constructed in different ways. The tribes that moved along the coastal land often exploited whalebones as struts to the canvas. The canvas was from the very beginning made of animal skins in order to be replaced by canvas.
When more and more tribes became resident, one started to build the huts of materials that were available. The forest noses, of course, used timber when it was in abundance. The coastal nomads used more stones in their buildings.
