The Malagena delta
In the south, where the river meets the sea, it changes character and turns into a large delta area. The small islands that the delta consists of are mostly overgrown with high grass and in the swirling river arms grow meter-high reed."We arrived at the village in the twilight. We had traveled on Malagena all day, from the green plains we left early in the morning. Then we came closer to the coast and slid into the big delta that makes up the river before we were to reach the sea. We suddenly found ourselves in a hall where the walls were made of green reeds. Plenty of swallows flew just over the tops of the reeds, in search of the innumerable insects that swarmed. Suddenly we arrived at a glade in the lush reeds. There on a pier our host met for the evening. We settled on the pier and were warmly welcomed by him while leading us to our room for the night. Meanwhile, the deafening sound of playing insects was mixed with local music." "Tales by the river" by K. Juranz, Royal biologist
