Advanced Energy Detection methods were developed in London during the early stages of the Vanishing Wars by the Advanced Research and Invention Agency. The UK organization was part of the initial coalition of groups that rooted out Vanishings, thereby bringing the technology to the IERA.
Implementation
Based on a combination of thermal and high range radio frequency signal detections, it is possible to identify the specific location, direction, and magnitude of energy production and consumption (e.g. where is it going and from where did it come, cotton-eyed-joe.)
In 2072, energy detection devices have miniaturized to the size of a briefcase. They can be installed on telephone polls, traffic lights, inside cars, and in the metal detector line.
Energy Signature Suppression
Though not unanticipated, suppression technology is not yet widely available. Such technology would be considered adverse to the IERA's main objectives. [Similar to encryption methods and the cybersecurity industry, there is a constant race to maintain detection methods more advanced than the ability to suppress energy signatures].
