ROGUE SIX: Liberating some NAGA Tech - Session Report
General Summary
Rogue SIX, a rag-tag group of self-organized agents (ex-agents from other agencies) obtained some intel from an informant that NAGA weaponized vehicles would be transported from Hudson City area to Chicago area on a specific train and route. Gathering supplemental intel, Sparks found the best place on the route to mount an ambush to "liberate" said vehicles and the team mobilized.
Before that ambush point is a tunnel that would remove the trains ability to communicate and be tracked well. And some distance before that, Sparks also laid a few magnetic "WiFi" boosters to help[ help hack into the train's systems.
The train exited the tunnel and Eclipse attached his chain to the train as it sped by. Luckily, as expected, it had to slow to traverse the tunnel and the following curve in the tracks, so with bungee-like ropes attached to his chain, Eclipse and the rest of the team made a successfully unnoticed landing on the first cargo car of the train. Within seconds the top hatch was opened and they were inside. There, they found the big TRAX Commander vehicle, a treaded all-terrain "tank" of sorts. First vehicle from the expected bucket-list of bounty on this train.
Toward the back of the train remained several cars, 2 personnel (or misc) cars, followed by the next cargo car, followed by 2 more personnel cars, then the last cargo car, ending with two final personnel cars. Sparks locked down the personnel cars so the doors would remain locked. The plan was now to sever the cars so the last 2 cars dropped off the train, then deal with the cargo car that was was on the end of the train, and then drop off the cars at the coupling of the next cargo car up, and so on.
Hunter and Ricochet provided overwatch and cover from the roof of the cars while Sparks remained in the first car, jacked into his deck that was connected into the trains systems, and Eclipse went to work getting to the other vehicles.
The next cargo car had two personnel carrier vehicles that looked like normal work vans, but upon close inspection were actually heavily armored and likely armed as well. The team decided to destroy this vehicles by opening the cargo car and driving them off the side of the tracks into the steep ravine below. As Eclipse prepared the second vehicle he found a strange highly secured briefcase and set that aside to take with him. The two large vans went off the train and tumbled to their doom.
The NAGA agents were now well aware of problems on the train but could not get out of the cars they were trapped in. However, the train lurched forward as engineers figured out their instruments were hacked and it was going slower than it should. Steps were also being taken to lock out whoever was hacking their systems as they moved to manual overrides. Time on this mission would soon run out.
More cars were decoupled, and the final cargo car held some miscellany and two beautiful Sky Cycles. They found all the vehicles they could abscond with, and agents were beginning to breach doors, so it was time to leave.
Eclipse, also a combat pilot, chained one cycle to the other and launched into the air from the open cargo car while the other 3 loaded into the TRAX as their car opened as well. The train was just going too fast for the to survive driving off the car, so Sparks lowered the large weapons on the TRAX and aimed at lower front of the cargo car to blow away the coupling.
The weapon was so powerful, though, it blew through the front of the cargo car, blew out the coupling and part of the car ahead, and also blasted through parts of the tracks. The cargo car bucked and left the tracks, then started to roll over. At the same time Ricochet hit the accelerator on the TRAX. These two things combined resulting in something similar to what you get with a trebuchet, effectively launching the TRAX into the air, and down into the now much shallower and wider canyon by the rails. It was a rough ride, but they eventually came to a stop in a meadow, with Eclipse landing nearby.
Mission Accomplished.
Later, in a warehouse co-opted as a forward base of sorts, the team examined the case and found it was not up to the challenge of keeping Sparks out. Inside the case was additional into of a deep underground location where power cells were faintly detected to be, and likely still quite usable. 3D coordinates were provided.
The team got together and decided that they should move on this intel ASAP, in case it was acted on quickly by NAGA, or any other enemy. They traveled quickly to the location and found an abandoned military base...only you wouldn't know it was there except for the secured tunnel that led into the side of a mountain, but never cam back out on the other side.
The large blast doors were also a dead giveaway.
This was an undocumented Deep Underground Military Base (D.U.M.B.), practically an urban legend among the rank and file of the military from before the Vanshing. This one appeared to have been abandoned even before that nightmarish event.
The navigated the dark and neglected tunnels, some actually dimly lit by failing and flickering safety lighting. They repelled down dead elevator shafts, shuffled down endless flights of stairs, and finally reached the same distance underground indicated by the intel. Here they entered a large storage area with old, neglected equipment.
But here they also found 4 power generators that seemed to contain the energy cells. Eclipse got to work on one, examining and beginning to disconnect it from its conduits before trying to open it. But as he disconnected the primary feed, the large room lit up and came to life, beginning in some ways to completely transform into some kind of assembly line, or something, and some of the walls opened to allow some robots to aminate and emerge.
Stay tuned for the continuation of this adventure of ROGUE SIX.
