Deseret Revenue Service

The Deseret Revenue Service (DRS) is the revenue service of the Deseret federal government. The DRS is a bureau of the Department of the Treasury, whose leader is appointed to a five-year term by the President of the Republic of Deseret.   The duties of the DRS include providing tax assistance to taxpayers and pursuing and resolving instances of erroneous or fraudulent tax filings. The DRS is also one of the most powerful law enforcement agencies, with wide sweeping power to investigate fraud and money laundering.

Role in Society

Overlapping levels of oversight was one of the principles that the founders of Deseret envisioned would keep the Republic corruption free. The DRS through its tax forms, could (if they wanted to) theoretically track down every dollar spent on Deseret. This makes fraud and money laundering relatively easy to track, those this hasn't stopped many individuals from trying over the years.   Even tax exempt organizations must submit paperwork for all their income and expenditures. The simple act of requiring organizations to submit records of their dealings had done wonders to prevent criminal elements from growing.

Forces

Few in number but wielding great authority DRS Special Agents, commonly called financial investigators, are popular subjects in Deseret crime fiction. DRS Special Agents are the only DRS employees authorized to carry and use firearms. DRS Special Agents have authority to carry out  arrest and search warrants, but also receive training in conducting authorized undercover operations and technical surveillance. Common practice, however, is for DRS Special Agents to request police support from local forces when carrying out such activities.

Culture

Since 1 DE the DRS has maintained a strict culture of professionalism, moral, and ethical standards.  DRS Agents are expected to maintain clothing and grooming standards that express these standards at all times.
