Teancum Gardiner
Teancum slowly brushed the crumbs of what had once been a delicious cream pastry off his vest. The pastry's container lay empty and vanquished on the park bench next to him, and an empty glass bottle of milk sat upright on the ground next to his feet. He had gorged himself, and he felt positively sick to his stomach. But sick to his stomach was preferable to having a panic attack, and at least now he could concentrate on the trouble he had gotten himself into.Teancum Adamson is a Desereti working for the Department of the Army that got assigned to the DDS Albatross on its diplomatic mission because search filters of the Army roster database labelled him as specially qualified. His contributions to the mission, although largely unattributed, played a larger role in the development of Desereti Foreign Policy than many know.

Teancum realized he had stopped chewing. Did the men speaking near him realize he spoke their language? Careful to use only his peripheral vision he watched them for a bit. No.....they didn't seem to. Teancum looked around the room for someone close by to speak to. No one was easily available. Teancum fought the temptation to run and tell the captain what he had heard. Instead he focused on the rich texture of the hors d'oeuvres, forcing an expression of delight on his face instead of the tension he felt rising. He would finish his plate, then move across the room for more. He opened his mouth and took another bite.

Sir, it is my opinion that whatever choice is taken now will have long term consequences in regards to any relationship we try to build with our neighbors. What we do here will get out. Do we want this first impression of us to be of men and women of principle, or one of practicality. But I think we need to address something I haven't heard yet. We want to help them. Even if we lack the means to help them enough, I think our desire to help has value. And ultimately what we choose to value will represent us more than anything we will ever be able to say.
