Hero

"Now that it's no longer cool to be a hero, why should we even try at all? Neither Eldorado nor Rubeus believe we can even turn things around. We should all just give up..."
— The First Lovers' complaints.
This article discusses the historical perception of superpowered heroes in Luoyang.

Career

Qualifications

Splendoro candidates must be physically fit or have some kind of magical power that can be used to protect others.
They can't become established heroes if they only have the basic triad of powers, but can still take on apprentice training.

Career Progression

Heroes generally went through three stages before becoming fully fledged.
Trainee: The splendoro take full or part time classes at super schools to hone their magic and coax it out.
Apprentice: Near the end of schooling, splendoro will tag along with established heroes to help out.
Established: The new hero now has the authority to act on their own, and only has to answer to Feather Mountain.

Payment & Reimbursement

Heroes were once reimbursed by Feather Mountain's treasury.
A hero could expect at least 3000-5000 Tang Coins a month depending on their contribution to the city's safety.

Other Benefits

Grateful citizens would offer gifts to heroes and cozy up to them.
Fame was part of the reason some heroes got into the line of work, taking Phoebe as inspiration.

Perception

Purpose

Heroes were supposed to keep the city safe for everyone, and contribute to social development which would indirectly lead to economic strength.

Social Status

Formerly idolized, but thanks to most new splendoro being sick of Feather Mountain's rules as well as cases of Drefussa, heroes are no longer held in any regard at all.

Demographics

Shortly before Phoebe's death, heroes made up 50% of the splendoro population in that period.
Gender distribution of heroes was initially skewed towards men.
Over the years, the gender distribution shifted from men in their thirties onwards to women in the same average age range.
As of 2016, all known heroes have retired and 70% of these heroes are women in their twenties and thirties.

History

Heroes have been around since Phoebe helped establish Feather Mountain, and attained their peak in the early 21st century.
However, after Phoebe's death, new splendoro began to lose their way and wanted to be villains instead.
Since fewer youths still joined heroes at all, it became harder for Feather Mountain to retain its existing staff.

Operations

Tools

Depends on the type of magic a splendoro carries.
Each splendoro carries a toolkit that contains paraphernalia related to their magic.

Materials

Splendoro only need food and drink in most cases.
If a splendoro who doesn't know healing magic feels they are at risk of injury, they will carry a miniaturized first aid kit.

Dangers & Hazards

Fighting superpowered villains often results in scrapes, cuts, and bruises.
