The Planet Portal

The YYY were able to contain isolated pockets of the portal energy and control it inside discreete objects, butthey could nothing to contain the low frequency portal magic that permeates the whole surface of the planet
While apparitions have become less frequent, the sheer expanse of the area of effect of this particular portal, which effectively cover the entire surface of the planet, means that the apparitions in it are completely out of the control of the YYY and of grandiose and potentially destructive proportions.
The YYY, in the absece of a practical way to contain it, at least set themselves the task to monitor and catalogue the intensity of the apparitions in the different areas of this phenomenon.
Several maps have been drafted but it is not clear how much the history of past apparitions is useful to predict future ones. For the time being, there are several areas that have been marked as dangerous, either because the apparition which are already in situ are of a dangerous nature or because the frequency of them means that the terrain can lierally open under the feet of an incautious traveler without any warning, or even worse a mountain can appear just where they are standing.
The apparitions are so sudden that whatever is present in the space already gets either inglobated in the new structure (if it is hollow) or the two structure that overlap neutralize each other, creating often upsetting chimeric ecosystems and locations.
More often than not the new geografic location appears complete with all its ecosystem, animals and plants and weather that need to adapt to whatever was present there before.
The clash of it can be deadly for one of the two if the nature of them prevents a compromise and the creation of a smoothed merging border.
