Gehenna Towers
"Hey, hey, just in case you forgot, this is Riot Storm coming at you live and hot from WJHT Radio Starstruck, here at Gehenna Towers. Or maybe cold, because you just heard the icy sharp voice of up-and-coming rock legend, Mistral."
Music in New Z'hrat's is one of Brimstone's League of Performing Artists' most profitable industries, second only to casinos and gambling, pulling in something to the tune of 4.2 billion gold annually. Gehenna Towers is the place where the magic happens. One of the two buildings is home to WJHT 87.5, Radio Starstruck, New Z'hrat's oldest ongoing radio station, and an assortment of scriptwriters, advertising agencies and programming specialists. The other, newer building contains recording studios and a series of offices for some of New Z'hrat's biggest talent agencies and music producers.
The name comes from the original executive responsible for radio programming, Adrian Gehenna, who cynically described the new technology as "neverending torment for the ears."
Purpose / Function
The first radio broadcasting center constructed in New Z'hrat. The skyscrapers have one radio station, and the rest of the Towers is dedicated to serving as a central hub for the music industry and executives responsible for radio programming.
Architecture
Gehenna Towers is a pair of imposing, industrial-looking skyscrapers of red brick, steel, and glass. Each building is 66 stories tall, with an antennae on top that reaches even higher.
Defenses
Security patrols the area extremely often, both Brimstone's general public safety patrols and the private security teams of the VIPs that are often coming to do business. Some floors have automated crossbow turret systems, which are... usually deactivated, but their implementation been a constant tug-of-war between the overzealous security team and an angry music producer who recently had to have a crossbow bolt surgically removed from xer rear end.
History
- Radio was invented in 2300.
- After the task of managing the new form of media was given to Brimstone's League, the first tower was constructed in 2304 and began broadcasting at the grand opening ribbon-cutting ceremony.
- Radio Starstruck has been broadcasting ever since, with less than a cumulative hour and fifteen seconds of dead air over the last 302 years.
- From there, the subsequent boom in the recording industry necessitated the construction of the second tower, which opened in 2388.
Tourism
Due to the amount of security, unaffiliated citizens and tourists can't enter the buildings, unless they're a guest of the radio station or one of the recording executives. However, it is a fairly significant local landmark, and longbug tours of the area will usually include the place on their itinerary.
