Lantern Hill

Lantern Hill is the most densely-populated pioneer settlement in the continent of Newground at the time of the story. It is a citadel of a town, one that is capable of watching over the activity undertaken by the natural wonders of this newfound land. While there may be farmlands and peasant villages dispersed throughout the vicinity of this town's outskirts, it truly is Lantern Hill where the beating heart of enthusiasm, the drive shared by those who left their fairy tale kingdoms, truly resides. The decisions made by the people of this town will affect life in the continent of Newground for many years to come, and the settlers feel that fact flowing through them with every step.

Demographics

Everyone included in the population of Lantern Hill are at least assumed to be human. Each of these people share an ethnicity reflective of European descent, though skin colors and facial arrangements are varied, diverse, and generally accepted without question. Wealth classes range from the middle class - merchants, blacksmiths, and tradesmen/women - and a mid-upper class, which, for now, includes people of fairly important occupations, like aristocrats, doctors, lawmakers, and those involved with the church. Many members of poorer classes live on the outskirts of Lantern Hill as peasants, their only hope of inclusion in society generally being through knighthood and wizardry, or training to become heavily involved with the church.

Government

The people live under the monarchy of an offshore king. Laws and taxation are both kept reasonable and respectful, leaving the town in a peace that is cherished by every citizen. However, the church holds a lot of sway with the people, and they could easily sway the people into implementing a theocracy of the church's choosing.

Defences

The high elevation of Lantern Hill is said to be its own defense, though the city is gated by a wooden fence, just in case.

Industry & Trade

Crops such as maize are shipped back to the original continent for the financial gain of the colony.

Infrastructure

The church is in the very center of Lantern Hill, and the town was built with that as the goal. The church's lights shine in the darkness of night, as to be a beacon for those who may have gotten lost or wandered too far, or to welcome visitors and traders from another town. The military has a massive building dedicated to them, one with an expansive courtyard in its center which is used for training. Besides that, there's many buildings, alleyways, and common areas, which are all connected by dirt roads for the time being.

Assets

There are some merchant shops that sell potions and other such things, which are sold legally for the purpose of healing the sick. There are some wounds and diseases that magic items cannot heal -- that is where doctors come into the fold.   The military still wears chain-mail and elaborate armors, and swords are the weapon that is most often used.   Gold and silver are the most valuable currencies of the town, though many citizens can still get by through the use of bartering with one another.

Guilds and Factions

If we're not counting the church, which holds massive influence as a faction, then the military and its knights make up the most prolific guild, with the wizardry guild coming in a close second. Besides that, guilds for every trade can be found in Lantern Hill, including obscure ones such as glassblowing and falconry.

History

Lantern Hill was founded by the colonizers fifty years ago by settlers of Newground, and it's become a thriving center for commerce and culture ever since.

Architecture

The buildings are built using architecture that is fairly reminiscent of 1500s-1600s structure, though the buildings would also fit extremely well in a medieval setting. Some buildings, especially the church in the center of Lantern Hill, have wooden floors, but the majority of grounds are dirt-based grounds -- this is especially true for roads.
