Glogdolp

Glogdolp is a kuo-toa village on the southern shores of the Black Loch. It was the first permanent settlement in that area, according to the kuo-toa who live there, or at least the first that is still standing today. The village's kuo-toa residents also claim to be the ones who named the Black Loch; while some doubt this claim, others believe it given the kuo-toa's general lack of sanity and the fact that the Black Loch is actually a sea rather than a loch.   The village economy is primarily based on fishing and the waters around it are said to be the Loch's best source of mollusks, which make up much of their exports. It is also a source for rare fish which the kuo-toa can catch with ease. When asked how they accomplish this, most kuo-toa reply, "To catch the fish, you must be the fish!" Their income is also supplemented by a small group of villagers who run ferries and act as local guides for travelers.

History

Pre-Campaign

Several months before the Thaig Expedition, the village found itself in the middle of a theological renaissance as some of its villagers have begun to worship a new, mysterious loch god called Saltora over the ancient deity revered since the time of their ancestors. There was been some fighting among the two sects of worshippers with the Saltora faithful taking over the western gate and several buildings in on the western side of the settlement. This included the main shrine to the old god, which they began to remodel towards worship of Saltora.   The violence grew worse under the leadership of Nogah, the self-proclaimed Chosen One of Saltora, leader of the separatist movement, and son of Archpriest Strelmotarplgbliid. As more and more villagers joined his following, he sent village warriors out in search of humanoids to sacrifice to Saltora. They eventually succeeded with an attack on a duergar trader, killing the guards and capturing the merchant before dragging the unfortunate trader back to their temple. There they administered a powerful sedative to keep him unconscious until Saltora arrived.

Journey Into the Underdark Arc

The Battle of Glogdolp

While patrolling with his guards and a host of villagers to try and stop his son's followers from doing any harm, Archpriest Strelmotarplgbliid met a group of travelers they had attacked. These travelers were accompanied by Strelmotarplgbliid's subordinate Mmottukuu, who had retrieved an idol of their god Gibbidubbus with the help of the travelers. Introducing himself as 'Strel', the Archpriest apologized profusely for the attack and used his magic to heal the travelers before offering to bring them to the village under his personal protection.   Archpriest Strel explained the situation to the travelers and inquired if they were adventurers. When they confirmed they were, he offered to hire them to sneak to the temple Nogah had occupied and gather information. The adventurers soon found that Nogah had captured a duergar trader and was making the final preparations to sacrifice the man to his god. The adventurers attacked and the conflict between the traditional and separatist religions erupted into full-blown combat across the village.   The adventurers battle Nogah and his honor guards while Archpriest Strel's guards and supporters jumped to support them. A major turning point came when the adventurers knocked Nogah unconscious and captured him. Archpriest Strel healed their wounds with his magic while they began to question Nogah, an act that was interrupted by a huge splash coming from the docks. The adventurers rushed there as a large frog-like creature pulled itself onto land and attacked them. Though the battle was fierce, the adventurers proved victorious and gathered evidence that proved this Saltora was no god, but rather an OoPA. Their warriors beaten and "god" slain, the heretics were arrested and thrown into jail as the village began to heal from these events.

Notable Residents

  • Archpriest Strelmotarplgbliid - The leader of Glogdolp's religious order and head of the village. He encourages their community to trade peacefully with other races to better improve their own lives while fostering worship of a traditional kuo-toa deity, Gibbidubbus.
  • Nogah, (Former) Chosen One of Saltora - The son of Archpriest Strelmotarplgbliid and former head of Glogdolp's separatist religion. He sought to return to the kuo-toa's ancient ways of sacrificing other humanoids to a powerful god, claiming that he met such a deity named Saltora in the Black Loch, and gathered a growing number supporters. He was defeated by the adventurers of the Thaig Expedition, and his "god" turned out to be an OoPA that the adventurers killed.
  • Mmottukuu - A kuo-toa who was caught by spiders in the Silken Paths while on a quest to retrieve an ancient idol of Gibbidubbus to help rally the kuo-toa loyalists. Later rescued by the Thaig Expedition and brought home along with the idol he'd been searching for.
