Gobo's Trinkets

Gobo the Traveling Merchant is the only known individual who can take monster parts harvested from OoPAs (Out of Place Animals) and turn them into magical trinkets, one of the many services offered by Gobo's Traveling Shop.   Each trinket can be attached to an armor or weapon to provide the item with a magical effect, though there are limitations. Some trinkets will only work on armor, others only on weapons, and sometimes the same trinket will have different effects depending on whether it is equipped onto an armor or weapon. Additionally, each armor or weapon can only hold the power of one trinket at a time unless upgraded with the right OoPA parts. Even then, trinkets of comparable power can prove to be incompatible.   Table of Contents

Armor Trinket Rules

  1. A class that does not use armor such as a barbarian, monk, or some spellcasters can choose a piece of clothing as their armor, such as a robe, tunic, or loincloth.
  2. Your armor can only have one damage reduction, resistance, or immunity to any one damage type.
  3. Your armor can only have one advantage or immunity vs a condition such as poisoned, frightened, or prone.
  4. Your armor can only have one trinket that grants a bonus to AC.
  5. Your armor can only have one effect that uses runes.
  6. Materials do not stack with improved versions of their effects (IE: an effect that reduces slashing damage by 1 cannot be combined with an effect that reduces slashing damage by 2).

Weapon Trinket Rules

  1. A character can choose to attune to an “unarmed item” instead of a weapon, such as handwraps, gauntlets, or knuckles, to improve their unarmed strikes.
  2. A weapon can have one material that causes an effect when you roll a 20. This material is exempt from rule 3.
  3. A weapon can only have one extra damage, condition inflicting, or on-hit effect material. The extra damage material rule doesn't apply to materials that have a requirement to deal that extra damage, such as only dealing extra damage when you roll a 20.
  4. A weapon can only have one effect that uses runes.
  5. A weapon can only have one bonus to spell DC and spell attack rolls.
  6. Materials do not stack with improved versions of their effects (IE: a weapon cannot gain +1 fire damage as well as a +2 fire damage).
