Kitsune

Kitsune are a famous type of fey in eastern cultures, though they are much lesser known in other parts of Nexus. They are a vulpine people, appearing as either a seemingly normal fox, a humanoid, or a mix of the two. Ancient stories frame the kitsune as famed tricksters, taking delight in playing pranks on hapless mortals. Depending on the tale told, these antics can be either good intentioned and meant to teach wholesome lessons or equal parts malicious and deadly for no other reason than the kitsune's amusement. These stories are told by both mortals and kitsune themselves, who often enjoy telling stories intertwined with tall tales and falsehoods to make them more interesting.
Despite their strangeness (by mortal standards), the truth of the matter is that most kitsune are simply inquisitive. This often leads them to a life of exploration and adventure, aided by their ability to take on humanoid form and blend in among humanoid communities. Even those who do not seek a life of adventure often satisfy their curiosity by dabbling in the music, painting, and other arts. But for those who do interact with mortals, kitsune are ever cautious of falling in love. While a kitsune is perfectly capable of having children with a mortal, such a child will always be born a full-blooded kitsune and thus be a dead giveaway of its parent's true nature.
