Rules of Fey Etiquette
Etiquette is a cornerstone of fey society, so much so that its edicts are magically enforced upon the fey collectively. While the full collection of rules are complicated, many of which vary between fey courts and even the domains of individual archfey (and are often alien by mortal standards), there are some generally known principles that any mortal who interacts with a fey are highly advised to follow.
- Never tell a fey your full true name.
- Never accept a gift from a fey unless they insist.
- Never try to haggle.
- Never lie to a fey.
- Always keep your word.
- Be polite and use your manners, but never apologize to or thank a fey (or you owe them).
- Never repay more than you've borrowed.
- Never brag about any interaction you've had with a fey.
- Never capture a fey's likeness without their permission.
- Never give a fey cheap clothing.
- Never make mention of newborn children and do not speak their names.
- Never step into a fairy ring.
- Fey love honey; offering them honey may get you out of trouble.
- Fey respect the power of three; saying or doing something in triplicate is likely to gain a sizeable reaction from a fey, for better or worse.
- Never consume the food or drink of the Feywild.
- Never stray from the path in the Feywild. Should you lose your way, turn your clothing inside out to find it again.
- Never dirty the water in the Feywild.
