Hammerdeep
What is known about Hammerdeep are it's outside defenses mostly, for none are allowed to enter that are not kin or kind, and none are allowed to speak of the halls in the deep at all. Hammerdeep was built within the tallest mountain in all the realm: Winterwyrm Peak, it's pinnacle is high enough to gather snow and ice.
Defences
The south-east facing wall of the mountain side holds the dwarven double doors, 25 feet thick and 100 feet tall of pure, gold trimmed granite. The mountain itself is riddled with well concealed murder holes and strong fortified keeps, all of which are garrisoned but none of which connect to the inside of the Halls. Several places along the mountainside are rigged to create rock slides at the pull of a lever, and other places are kill zones with siege engines' sighted, trained and ready to fire from unseen positions on unsuspecting enemies. All the dwarven defenses are camouflaged within the stones of the mountain so well that it appears to invaders that they are being attacked by the rocks themselves, as if Winterwyrm Peak came alive to batter it's assailants and defend it's children. The interior defenses are said to be even worse than the exterior ones but nothing else is known about them.
History
Winterwyrm Peak is known as such because King Gareth Dragonsbane slew a great and powerful dragon that claimed the mountain as its own, when the 1st king of men and his heroic companions vanquished the beast he gifted the Peak and all it's riches to his dwarven allies led by King Torgar Delzoun Fellhammer, to be their home forever more. More than a thousand years have passed and the mountain holds no more secrets for the stout folk, they long ago delved to the roots and excavated the top.
