Jonas son of Thorgrim

Jonas son of Thorgrim is the blacksmith of New Cresthill, a resilient and jolly figure who primarily crafts and repairs essential tools for the villagers, such as axe heads and saws, although he occasionally forges weapons and armor when the need arises. However, Jonas is also known as a not-so secret drunkard.   Personality: Jonas is a complex character. While he is dedicated to his craft and the well-being of the village, he struggles with a drinking problem. His frequent bouts of heavy drinking leave him with a gruff and unkempt demeanor. When sober, he's focused and determined and when heavily under the influence, he becomes unpredictable and sometimes even belligerent, but when he is in-between he is a jovial fun loving character, whose raucous laughter is often heard throughout the town.   Goals: Jonas's primary goal remains to ensure that the villagers have the tools they need for their survival. He dreams of crafting legendary tools that will improve the hamlet's efficiency. His secondary goal is to find solace and escape from the harsh realities of New Cresthill, often turning to alcohol as a means of temporary relief.   Daily Routine: His day still begins with tending to the forge and crafting or repairing essential tools. However, his daily routine often includes secretive moments when he consumes alcohol hidden away in his workshop or in the darker corners of The Hunting Witch, Edda's inn and tavern.   Quirks: Jonas's alcohol consumption is his most significant quirk. He hides bottles of liquor in various places around his workshop and within his home, masking the scent with the smoke and fire of his forge.   Motivations: Jonas's motivation is still driven by a deep sense of responsibility for the survival and well-being of the villagers. He knows that their ability to eke out a living depends on the quality of his craftsmanship. His drinking habit, however, is a means of coping with the constant struggle and the loss and hardship he has witnessed over the years.   Connections: Despite his drinking problem, Jonas is still highly valued by the village due to his exceptional blacksmithing skills. The villagers tolerate his behavior, as they know that he is the only competent blacksmith willing to live in New Cresthill. Ealderman Garin, in particular, tries to provide him with support and encouragement to conquer his addiction. He also secretly mentors Soren son of Leif in smithing, he appreciates the young lad and enjoys showing him his trade.   Loves: Jonas's love still lies in the act of creation itself. He finds solace and purpose in crafting and repairing tools, a tangible representation of his dedication to the village's survival.   Hates: Jonas holds a deep resentment for the secretive gambling habit of Silas, the merchant. He believes that Silas's reckless behavior threatens the stability of the hamlet and jeopardizes their chances of survival and suspects him of embezelling the hamlet's funds. This internal strife gnaws at him, as he feels that the hamlet can ill afford such distractions in their grim existence.
