Silas son of Kallum
Silas son of Kallum is the merchant of New Cresthill, a man who navigates the relentless hardships of their existence with a sharp mind and a keen eye for trade. His life revolves around the difficult task of securing resources for the hamlet's survival.
Personality: Silas is a charismatic and optimistic individual. He always wears a smile, even in the bleakest of circumstances. He's known for his ability to see luck in every situation, attributing it to his unwavering faith in Tymora, the goddess of luck. However, beneath this cheerful facade lies a hidden struggle.
Goals: Silas's primary goal is to provide the villagers with essential goods and maintain trade with Witherhelm Keep. He believes that his faith in Tymora will bring prosperity to New Cresthill. His secondary goal is to overcome his gambling addiction, which threatens to consume him.
Daily Routine: His day begins early, overseeing the loading of goods onto wagons for the journey to Witherhelm Keep. He negotiates deals and handles trade agreements, often haggling with the merchants of the citadel. In the evenings, he meticulously maintains his records, counts his meager profits and offers his prayers to Lady Luck. If he is away from New Cresthill he will find gambling dens to indulge his addiction.
Quirks: Silas has a peculiar habit of collecting and cataloging unusual and valuable items and old coins. His quarters are filled with trinkets, curiosities, and rare goods, each carefully labeled and organized. He believes that one day these items may become valuable commodities in a changing world.
Motivations: His motivation is driven by a desire to secure a better future for himself and, to some extent, the hamlet he is also driven by an unshakable faith in Tymora's blessing, believing that luck will eventually turn in favor of New Cresthill. He understands that their survival hinges on resourcefulness and the ability to adapt to the ever-evolving world.
Connections: Silas has a complicated relationship with Jonas Thorgrimsson, the blacksmith and Alden Bjornson, the lumberjack. While they work closely together to secure the hamlet's resources, they often clash over resource allocation and priorities. He also maintains a cautious friendship with Edda, the innkeeper, as they share information about potential opportunities beyond New Cresthill.
Loves: Silas has a deep love for the art of trade and negotiation. The act of striking a profitable deal or outsmarting a rival trader brings a sense of accomplishment and fleeting moments of satisfaction in the otherwise bleak landscape. He also loves gambling for the same reasons.
Hates: Silas despises the constant presence of crows and ravens in New Cresthill. He views them as omens of bad luck, believing that they are messengers of ill fortune sent by Beshaba, the goddess of bad luck to test his faith. The sight and cawing of these birds unnerve him, and he does his best to shoo them away whenever they gather in the hamlet, even going so far as to put up scarecrows in various places.
