The Golden Regiment

The Golden Regiment is a massive force of elite combatants that are easily recognizable by the golden armor they wear and golden weapons they wield. No expense is spared in the equipment of these soldiers, they are given many magical items and potions of all kinds and their arms and armor are heavily enchanted. Once a year they march out of Nexus accompanied by fanfare in what is known as the "Glittering Procession", a great show of force to the whole of the kingdom, they then separate and travel to all towns villages and hamlets to collect the king's due. The greatest among the Golden Regiment are given the task to guard House Marigold itself or one of the family's many vaults. They are the only other entity in the realm (besides a Judge) that are allowed to dispense the King's justice to the inhabitants of the kingdom, but only in tax related matters.

Structure

The Gleaming Knights are a very well organized and well trained fighting force, they have a common military style ranking system:
  • Collector (private)
  • Knight of Pennies (corporal)
  • Knight of Silvers (sergeant)
  • Knight of Golds (lieutenant)
  • Lord of Coin (captain)
  • Tax Commander (major)
  • Culture

The Taxmen of the Golden Regiment are feared and respected by the folk of the realm, and rightly so. House Marigold have the responsibility of gathering the King's tithe and they take this duty very seriously. Although their official motto is "Every. Last. Copper." they are more often heard saying "The King will have his due, in Gold or in Blood". They care about the tax but care little about the taxed, they will plunder homesteads for anything of value if it is  found to be in default of payment.

    Public Agenda

While a Judge's main concern is to protect the folk of the realm by any means necessary, the Golden Regiment's main concern is taking from them by any means necessary, due to this fact Judges and Taxmen dislike each other very much but are not allowed to interfere in each others jobs.   When the Gleaming Knights arrive in an inhabitated area they first eliminate any undead threats in and around a town, before closing it off and systematically going door to door to collect taxes. They deal with anyone or anything that attempts to stop them with extreme prejudice, even a simple peasant that approaches their fortified wagon would suffer a swift death.

    "Every. Last. Copper."
