The Great Lighthouse

The Great Lighthouse of Nexus is the most wondrous and awe inspiring sight to behold in all the land, and truly, it can be seen throughout the land. The base of, and complex around, the lighthouse is the royal palace, where the King lives, holds court, meets dignitaries and so on. It is richly adorned with carvings and statues of the old gods and previous kings, while being sumptuously decorated with the finest tapestries and silks.   The structure itself is a full mile in height and rotates very slowly, it takes 4 weeks (it spends 1 week at every cardinal point) for the light house to complete a full rotation. The warm life giving light makes the clouds part and sun shine brighter, it makes the air and the water seem fresher and it is antithesis to the mist and the undead. Rarely, if ever, do the undead come forth during the radiant week, they are unaffected by the 2 twilight weeks (the lightening and the darkening) but are empowered and emboldened during the week of shadow. The mists at the border of the lands are pushed back during the radiant week (sometimes uncovering long lost ghost towns and ruins) similarly, the mists are pushed inwards in the shadow week behind it, like the tide ebbing and flowing.   The lighthouse is bright enough to be seen during the day but dim enough so the night seems bathed in the light of a full moon. The Great Lighthouse's magic is ancient, it is maintained by drawing arcane energies from magical items of immense power: Artifacts. These artifacts are stored within the chamber of the light itself at the top of the Lighthouse, it is said that if only 1 of those artifacts were removed the Great Lighthouse would cease to shine and crumble to the ground signaling the apocalypse. The Great Lighthouse of the city of Legends was built at the behest of the 1st king: King Dragonsbane.
