Persephone

Roman/Greek Queen of the Underworld   When Persephone was young she met Hades and the two would soon fall in love. However, her mother Ceres/ Demeter did not approve of their union, so the two love birds made a deal with the Goddess of nature. Every six months Persephone would move from the underworld back to her mother's garden hut where she would stay for six months before returning to the underworld.    She and her husband enjoyed a joyous marriage and ruled the realm of the dead peacefully. That was until one day when her child Zagreus was born. While the baby's feet were bright red and always on fire the rest of his body was pale. It was revealed by an oracle that when Hades became a reaper he lost the ability to create a child that would live as life cannot come from death. This drove Persephone into a deep sadness and when she went to visit her mother after the loss of her child she got a letter from her husband. He asked to never return as she had no place in the underworld. Upon reading those words Persephone stayed in her mother's home for years all-the-while filled with a deep sadness.    One day though out of the blue, her child who she believed was died came back to her as a fully grown adult. She was so confused as he told her that he was alive this whole time in the underworld. Soon however his body turned to ash and he disappeared. This encounter left Persephone confused yet hopeful that the day her and her child could truly be a family was getting closer.
