Brian
Brian is the Calistian god of plants. He is most commonly depicted in a male form, with light skin and dark hair. His eyes are sometimes shown as light brown, and somtimes shown as entirely gray, with no pupils. He is also often drawn wearing a scarf or hat to keep his hair pulled back while working in the garden. He is said to be the brother of Holter.
Personality
As the god of plants, Brian is drawn to plants and gardens. He is fiercely loyal to those who follow him and those to whom he has granted magical abilities. He is said to meddle in the affairs of mortals primarily for the sake of these people, and usually doesn't tolerate others. Though the Suracity religion depicts him as having no tolerance for dishonesty, other depictions show Brian as a trickster.
Home in Caliste
Brian's home in the realm of the gods is described as a large and luxurious garden. It has plants from all over the world, as well some from other worlds. The garden can be as inviting or as dangerous as Brian deems it so. Those who have his favor see well-formed walk ways, trellises, fountains, and carefully shaped trees and bushes. But to those who have offended him, the garden can quickly turn into a shifting maze in which a person can be trapped forever, fighting creeping vines and poisonous fruits.
Popular Stories
In The Death Witch (and Other Stories) Brian is depicted giving one of his favored mortals a magical tree branch to win the favor of her king. Though he is not directly mentioned in the story, Brian is also associated with Michael Burch and Jonathan Burch's fairytale of the Man-Eating Rose.
