She touched Corin's skull, if you know what I mean
Corin was an 8th century Ethite prophet who was said to have foretold not only his own death, but the death of the Ethite religion and the beginning of a new and better era. When he died, he was cannibalized, and his bones buried, except for his skull, which was interred with his book of prophecies in the Ethite temple of Sinul until the temple was destroyed on order of the Ethite queen in the 15th century.
The Ethites of Sinul believed that Corin was such a great prophet that he passed on his wisdom and vision even in death. Anyone holding his skull could foresee the future. This gift came with a curse, however, for these visions are said to be so numerous that only a select few can withstand them. Those who could not withstand the illusions were said to go mad, usually dropping to the ground and screaming from experiencing all the pain of the future at once.
It is unclear what happened to the skull after the destruction of the Sinul temple. Most believe it was smashed in the process, but some believe it was smuggled out of the temple by a devoted clergy person. Still others argue it was smuggled out by the queen herself who intended to use it for her own purposes. This is sometimes used in jest when people state that government officials (or anyone) has a bad idea.
As Corin's body was buried near the temple, an additional myth has sprung up around the skull that Corin's spirit still reside inside and it will haunt the area around the skull, looking for his body. These stories say that if you see the skull somewhere, you should neither touch it nor cross it, but walk in the other direction. If you do, Corin's ghost will believe you took his body and haunt you to death. This story is also the source of the Ethite idioms "to dig up old bones" and "to leave bones interred."
