Kaden Camp (KAH-den)

Atlinthaia's greatest spy

Kaden Camp was born in 1490 in Atlinthaia. At age nine, he discovered his natural ability for truth magic and at age 44, he doscivered the Crown Staff of Dusk. He went on to be an influential leader during the Southern Conflict.

Early Life

Kaden spent most of his childhood with his father, a carpenter. Having been selected by the district's leader as a law enforcer and judge, his mother frequently traveled to different areas in the district. When she was present in their home, his parents fought frequently. It is likely that Kaden's father married his mother because he sought political refuge rather than out of love, and the two struggled over religious differences.

Having been raised mostly by his father, Kaden followed the Een religion, rather than the faith of his mother. At age 26, his father arranged a marriage for him, and he and his wife had two children. He also followed his father's footsteps in crafting, gaining a reputation as a sculptor.

Discovery of the Staff and Military Career

Kaden discovered the Crown Staff of Dusk in its box in 1534, while cleaning up his father's workshop in the wake of his death. As he was leaving with it, he was attacked by a thief, who believed the box contained something valuable. The thief cut his hand, but failed to take the staff, due to its strong truth properties.

In 1535, when the Southern Conflict began, Een citizens were the first to be conscripted into the army, in order to prove their loyalty. When Kaden's children were insitially conscripted, he offered to join instead, in order to spare them. He served as spy--his gift for truth and lying allowing him to easily evade capture while also rooting out enemy spies. Disaster struck in 1540 when he discovered his very wife was a spy for Diamondheart's forces. He killed her, raher than bring her in, but with with reputation of his family destroyed, his children were conscripted into the army after all. After his younger son was killed in battle, Kaden attacked his own superior officer. He was jailed for this offence and remained in prison until his death in 1544.
